This post will be a very different post than all my others…but this is a special occasion where a special post is required. This past weekend, my wife delivered our beautiful baby girl. Coming in at a whopping 6 lbs 8 oz and being 19 inches long, she is a tiny little girl. From the moment I found out we were expecting to the moment she was born, I was excited, but unsure of how to be. The moment my little Katelyn was born, I knew that I had someone who would be joining me in every geeky aspect of my life.
Many people know of my intense liking for Superman. This came into play during my wife’s baby shower, where she received many little outfits related to superman. THIS IS AWESOME. My little girl will start off knowing about the greatest superhero around. She can see his little symbol not only around my house, but on her clothes. I can’t wait to hear her say Superman for the very first time. When she gets a little older (as in teenager age) I can sit down and watch all of the Superman movies with her. I can talk to her about the comic books and let her read the ones that I have collected. Maybe it’s a little unrealistic to expect my little girl to have any liking for Superman later in her life…but since I am starting her young, I think it will be a lot more likely to actually happen. 🙂
I am already planning a Star Wars Marathon…and it will be a long one since so many more Star Wars movies will exist by the time she is old enough to really watch them and enjoy them. I wonder if the new movies will have characters that become her favorite Star Wars characters the same way Obi Wan became my favorite jedi due to the prequel trilogy. Will she play lightsabers with her friends the same way I did. I have no idea if she will but I tell you what…she will be playing lightsabers with me. We will go on little adventures where we are trying to save the galaxy from the evil sith. I will take her to opening day showings of new Star Wars films the same way my dad did. I already have a whole bunch of Star Wars books and comics that I will let her read if she ever wants to. There is no doubt in my mind that she will have plenty of opportunity to be involved in the Star Wars Universe.
I plan on doing a lot of really fun things with my daughter. One of the biggest things is attending Salt Lake Comic Con. Now I have never been one to cosplay…but if my little girl wants to dress up for comic con, then so help me, I will be dressing up with her. We will get to visit cool people who we have seen in movies or tv shows together. we will get to geek out for three days at a time together. I will check her out of school if I need to just so we can spend that time together being geeks.
She doesn’t know it yet, but my little girl is destined to be a geek, and an awesome geek at that. From a young age, she will be around one of the biggest geeks in the world (not just in geekiness but also in actual size…I am 6’5″…). Because I love my little girl, I will introduce her to the geeky things in this life. And in doing so, I will have someone my entire life who will be able to understand my mind. My little girl will be my best friend, my comic book buddy, my movie junkie pal, and for all those LOTR fans…my precious. I have never felt love for anything the way I do for this little girl…and it is the best feeling in the world.
Little Katelyn is definitely someone worth being geeky about!
