What an amazing time to be alive…and not just alive, but also to be a geek. Not only do we have comic books and comic conventions, but within the recent years, the cinematic universe has brought so many awesome heroes and villains to life. they aren’t just being brought to life though, they are being perfectly portrayed. So many of these actors have portrayed their characters in a way that I imagined already in my head (having read a lot of the comics helped me with that mental formation of these characters…).
Looking at the Marvel Universe, they have done an exceptional job in their films. My favorite part about these movies and Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. is how everything is connected. I can only imagine just how extensive the process must be to be able to make all these individual films and shows and keep them all connected. Comic book continuity can be difficult to handle sometimes, but Marvel has done a great job at making it realistic. So far my favorite film in the Marvel Universe has been Captain America: Winter Soldier, followed closely by Guardians of the Galaxy. Two extremely well made movies. I think one of my favorite things about Captain America was just how realistic it was. Aside from the stretch of a super powered soldier, all of the things that happened were pretty realistic, at least to me.
DC has been catching up (finally) in the cinematic universe as well. The Dark Knight Trilogy really opened the door for DC to start bringing awesome films to the table. And when Man of Steel came out, they showed that they were finally ready to bring to life the incredible comic book universe of DC Comics. Being a huge Superman fan, I loved Man of Steel. I am even more excited for Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (might I add that I don’t think the movie is really going to be about them fighting. Sure they will have a fight…but they will resolve that and face the true villainy of Lex Luthor and whoever he is working with). DC has also done really well in their TV shows. I LOVE Arrow and the Flash. I stay up late every Tuesday and Wednesday night just so I can see what happens next. Gotham is a force to reckon with as well. I haven’t followed it as much (can I even call myself a true geek anymore?), but there have been moments I have seen that have been awesome…one of which is the portrayal of the Joker at the end of a recent episode. As a courtesy, I have posted it below so everyone can get the chills like I did. (it does have a little language, just as a warning)
Looking to the future, we have between 20-30 superhero films coming out in the next 5-6 years…THIS IS AWESOME. With Avengers: Age of Ultron coming in just two months, the massive wave is coming down around us. I found an infographic (I actually know what these are now due to school…) that listed all of the movies coming out till 2020 as well as some that don’t have planned dates yet. Take a good look and make sure to geek out or fangirl or whatever it is you do when you get excited about geeky things. This is an awesome time to be a geek.
